Happy New Year?

Wow, haven't posted anything since last month/year. So, new year and all. I'm so tired of winter I can hardly stand it. The older I get the more I hate the cold.

As most of you know, I passed another birthday, which mean I have less than four years now to hold out for retirement, something I'm very much looking forward to since my current job has become a boring drag. This close to retirement though I just have to suck it up and try to get through the days as best I can. Whether I try to find a part time job after I leave my full time employment or not is something to consider when the time comes. I'm hoping that financially I won't *need* to have a part time job.

Goals/resolutions for last year: Well, I only made a book resolution (52 books w/1 classic & 1 non-fiction per month). Didn't make that goal (40 books read with 8 classic & 8 non-fiction each). Close but no cigar. So I'm not making a resolution. I read for pleasure so I'm just going to read when and what pleases me, although I do want to start reading some of the older books I have on my Kindle and in my pile 'o books. This month so far I've been on a real tear. I've been re-reading the Percy Jackson series (both Percy Jackson and the Olympians & The Heroes of Olympus) because I bought the latest book in the Heroes series and realized that I couldn't remember what the heck had happened previously. I blame the fact that I was listening to the books on audio while I worked out and my attention was too scattered to really retain anything. I'm finally on the last book. So I've finished six books so far this month and I'm reading two more (the Heroes book and a re-read of The Cat Who Could Read Backwards). I should get both books finished this weekend.

I've been regaining weight and I've been lousy with exercising, so I really need to get back to that. I'm miserable and mad at myself.

And thanks to everyone who wished my happy birthday last week.

TJ is being incredibly cute this morning. :-)

points to my post 2 days back with a different, much easier book bingo challenge if that interests you. With the amount you read it should be fairly easy to get a bingo and have a little fun with it.

ugh, weight gain and exercise, the bane of my existence. good luck.

I must have missed the post about the bingo. I'll check that out.

And thanks. Yeah, I hate my fat cells. They're the Taliban of my body. :-(

I went over there and I'm bookmarking that site. I'm kind of flummoxed on the 'forgotten classic' but I think I'll talk to the reference librarian at my library and get her recommendations.

me too. Honestly I think if you pick anything from 40+ years ago that isn't taught in school you're probably good, like Dickens' lesser known works. Hell I think Verne and Wells are classics that no one teaches

I found a lesser known Daniel Defoe (A Journal of the Plague Year), and also a book written by a William Godwin (Caleb Williams Or Things as They Are) that really look interesting. And both were free downloads to my Kindle. Also I forgot but I bought The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole last year and never got around to reading it, so I have several to choose from now. :-)

But just as sweet. Thanks, Cindy!

I hope your new year is much better than 2013. ((hugs))
